Meet Kelly
Also known as Camp Mother Kel, Kelly is the owner-operator here at Rangeview supported by her son 'Deputy Dog Man Dan'.
Dogs are without a doubt a true passion for me with my main love being dog psychology and behaviour. With over 30 years of extensive experience working with dogs in various circumstances, I've gained plenty of useful knowledge over the years!
Working for four years as a veterinary nurse, across two different clinics, I've gained valuable insights into canine health and welfare. I also spent 7 years running the Canine Nutrition Research Unit at Massey University managing 24 dogs at a time.
I’m a qualified Canine Behaviour Practitioner, having completed a 2-year diploma from the British College of Canine Studies in 2012 and 2013. I am also currently studying another 3-year behaviour course to gain deeper insights into the complexities of a dog's mind on multiple levels.
At home, I have my own pack of five doggos. Fern and Peep, both Heading dogs, Teaga and Echo, who are a mix of Border Collie and Springer Spaniel and my trusty 2IC and ‘super nanny,’ Jade, who is a 14-year-old Heading, Huntaway, Lab cross. Apart from Nanny Jade, who serves as their cheerleader, all the other dogs have fun participating in various dog sports including agility and hoopers throughout the upper North Island whenever time permits.
Here at Rangeview we provide opportunities for dogs to truly be dogs, with a well fenced rural environment that allows them to run free to their hearts’ content. We are proud to open our home to pooches of all breeds and ages to enjoy a day of frolicking with friends in a safe environment.
We have many repeat offenders who are always excited to get to daycare or arrive for a sleepover. Their humans tell us many times that their 4-legged family members excitement starts to build as soon as they turn down our road!
Here at Rangeview we are proud to live by our three values:
Respect us, Respect one another & ‘Calm the Farm’
From day one, our doggos understand that the humans at Rangeview need to be listened too. We do this through calm and consistent education with regard to our three values above.
As with any group, humans or dogs, in order for chaos NOT to ensue there needs to be some structure. The providers of this structure are either Camp Mother Kel or Deputy Dog Man Dan - not the doggo's themselves!
Respect Us
This is Rangeview’s main point of difference!
We like to keep barking to a minimum. You may hear the odd single bark in play which is OK however manic barking is discouraged.
Don't worry if your dog barks*. Here at Rangeview, we've not had a dog yet that doesn't follow the lead of their mates to ‘calm the farm’ with regard to barking.
Respect one another
It is important to us that each and every dog feels safe and secure throughout their visit. Therefore, it is imperative that the dogs show respect for one another at all times when interacting to avoid chaos. Again, this is done through calm and consistent education.
For those that wish to, appropriate energetic play is acceptable provided that the dogs involved show respect for one another while enjoying each other’s company.
‘Calm the farm’
*We want your dog to go home physically & mentally content, not exhausted in a 'wired’ way because they've had to endure a day full of chaos and barking. It is not a natural behaviour for dogs to bark continuously. The reason this happens is because they are either bored or stressed. Here at Rangeview, dogs are busy having fun, therefore by default the Farm is kept Calm!
